imagine a world
where leaves turn green
or purple or blue
and you cannot sleep
because the sun’s not up yet
and where fall is the happiest time of the year
and spring sucks
where people refer to summers as rough
and wait for the first snow
impatient and hopeful
imagine a world where the sun goes up when it gets dark
and the moon just hangs on there at all times
round and full and purple
or green
imagine a world where people are judged by what they contribute to the best of everyone
and not by their gender
or race, a world
where no government paper asks you to define
whether you are caucasian or black
male or female
and you don’t have a social security number
because you don’t need one
a world where no child has to die from the side effects of war
and of power a world where
no woman needs to live in fear of wartime
over everydaytime
rape
can you imagine a world like this?
a world with no hunger
no visas
cause people travel freely wherever they want
a world worth saving and loving
where no powerful force dictates the people
but the people themselves decide what they want –
a world that provides everyone with health care
and public transportation
and everything they need
that heals cancer and aids and gets rid of hunger
not because it makes money
but because it makes
sense?
now, can you imagine
that people used to live in brother- and in sisterhood
in harmony
sharing their work and their goods
until somebody came and proclaimed: homo homini lupus
people are wolves to each other
and for reasons of power
of money and wealth
killed
shot
and stabbed those who had met him full of love and friendship
while he, as a sign of appreciation, took all their goods
and then their kids
their women
their men
their homes
and finally managed to extinct those friendly fellows?
now, can you imagine that i have to bring up all those examples
to prove: no, homo homini amicus –
people can live in friendship
and love
and hatred only comes up – as jealousy, hunger for power and whealth, overaccumulation of capital and fear of losing even the poor conditions and the small benefits of one’s own life do –
under pressure
and in interest of a certain layer of society
isn’t it peculiar that we let them make us believe:
we’re too bad to be good to each other
when we sacrifice daily
our time and our lives
our money, often times our homes
or whatever goods we might have acquired
for people we love?
that while we want to believe in life being worthwhile living
in people being worthwhile trusting in them in that we can
influence
things and we can
change
things if we work hard
that we still have this freakish idea that no one would follow?
and isn’t it peculiar that all of those things i have listed
like being healthy
not hungry
and educated
not desperate
and friendly
not cynical
and sharing
not selfish
are things that seem only just and valuable to us
but still i have to develop an argument that it could be different
that i had to compare
socialism
to a world turned upside down
with rivers flowing upwards
and leaves turning purple and blue being stroked by the gentle breath of fall
while at the same time
the world in fact is turned upside down
the way it is now?
wake up people –
it is rather dark at daylight and it not getting better
just like that
wake up, folks, and raise your fists
stand up and get together
for to be together we are made
and as long as we kneel down and let them separate us
they will never back off
and why should they?
however
we are more
and not any less tall
and who are they to keep us down
to keep us from being human
to keep us from our natural way
to kill and to deprive us
to make us wolves
towards each other
and who are we
to let them go through with that?
arise, ye workers from your slumbers – the leaves turn red, not blue or green –
arise
for we have nothing left to lose
but everything
to win
